First snow in Beaumont

First snow of the winter, looking across the valley
Most of the snow melted quickly and we had
 a hard frost this morning
Beauty bush with frost crystals in the Alazard garden,
and a frosty cotoneaster
with such pretty berries!

Lovely day at the house

Walking around the garden in Alazards this afternoon
admiring the colours
The oak trees keep their leaves all winter, they drop
them when the new ones start to appear.
Looking up at the cliff across the pool

A bit of snow

The sun came out later after a morning of drizzel,
there is a smattering of snow on the Ventoux.
The colours around the valley are changing.
This is the crest of the St Amand in the distance,
and the hamlet of Pierlaud
and the longue saffre
A view of Beaumont village
And our town hall

Kaki

After yesterday afternoon's snow it's another
bright day in Provence. This is a persimmon tree,
a familier sight at this time of year in Provence.
The fruit are like bright orange tomatoes, with
a soft pulpy center, and are best eaten after a frost.
Here they are called kaki.
One of my paintings.

orchards, you can just see the roof of our
house in the center of the photo
The woods beyond the house, the house is
 center right in the photo
and the GR4 path leading up the mountain which
will go past  the Sainte-Sidoine chapel
some of my paintings of the area, this is a watercolour
and these are acrylic on canvas
This afternoon it rained and there has been a
smattering of snow on the hillside treetops

Mt. Ventoux

The village of Beaumont du Ventoux nestles on the
foot hills of the mountain, Mt Ventoux. Famous as
the giant of Provence and a great attraction for
cyclists, being one of the iconic accents during the
Tour de France cycle race. The summit is at almost 2000m.
The summit is above the tree line, mostly gravel,
and looks like a lunar landscape
This is taken from the ski ressort of Mt Serein,
five kms from the summit seen here
Here is the mountain in all it's glory,
from the lavender fields,
from the vinyards
This year the 100th anniversary of the Tour went
through Malaucène and finished on the summit.
Another view of the mountain
